What patients say about our hearing care.

Patients rate our Kings Heath and Streetly centres 5.0 on Google, from more than 1,850 reviews. Here are two recent reviews from hearing aid patients, a short video review, and our latest Google reviews.

“I attended my appointment today to trial some hearing aids, and viewing the charts of my hearing test with Mr Khizar explaining how the hearing aids would improve my problems was so very helpful. With the hearing aids in place he even took me outside to experience how sounds were improved.”

“Extremely knowledgeable. He made me feel totally at ease and took time to explain everything to me. I am so glad I found him!”

Why choose us

Independent hearing care in Kings Heath.

Birmingham Hearing Care at 310 Haunch Lane is our longest-established centre and part of the Ear Wax Specialist group. We’re independent, so we aren’t owned by a hearing aid manufacturer or a national chain. Our audiologists are HCPC-registered, and our lead audiologist, Mohammed Khizar, has more than 20 years’ experience in NHS and private hearing care.

You’ll usually see the same audiologist from your first hearing test to every follow-up, and most adjustments and repairs are done here in Kings Heath rather than being posted away.

Not tied to one brand.

We fit hearing aids from seven leading manufacturers, so we recommend what suits your hearing, not what we’re contracted to sell.

Time to test properly.

Your hearing test takes up to 90 minutes and includes speech-in-noise testing, so we see how you hear in real conversation.

The same audiologist.

Where possible, the audiologist who tests your hearing also fits your hearing aids and sees you at every follow-up.

Try before you buy.

Wear a trial pair at home for 14 days. If they’re not right for you, bring them back. No charge, no deposit.

Measured, not guessed.

We check every fitting with real ear measurements, so we know what your hearing aids are delivering inside your ears.

Aftercare in Kings Heath.

Adjustments, cleaning, servicing and most repairs happen at the centre, with same-day appointments when we have space.

Your free hearing test

Why you should have a hearing test in Birmingham before buying hearing aids.

An audiologist should never recommend hearing aids without a thorough clinical assessment first. We check your ears for wax before testing, and we take your lifestyle, the type of hearing loss you have, your dexterity and your memory into account before we suggest anything.

Free · Up to 90 minutes · No GP referral needed · Results explained on the day

We talk about your hearing.

Tell us where you struggle most and what you’d most like to hear better. Bring a family member if you like. They often notice things you don’t.

We look in your ears.

Video otoscopy shows your ear canals and eardrums on a screen. If wax is in the way, we can book ear wax removal in Kings Heath first and test your hearing at least 24 hours later.

We test your ears and hearing levels.

Tympanometry checks how your eardrums move and whether your middle ear is working normally. Full diagnostic audiometry then measures the quietest sounds you can hear across a range of pitches.

We test how you hear speech.

QuickSIN measures how well you follow sentences against background chatter. The AB word list checks how clearly you hear individual words, and the ACT (Audible Contrast Threshold) test helps us set up noise reduction if you need hearing aids.

We explain your results and options.

You’ll see your audiogram on the day, explained in plain English. If hearing aids would help, we’ll show you suitable styles and prices, and we check any fitting with real ear measurements (REMs). If they wouldn’t help, we’ll tell you. There’s no obligation.

Hearing aid styles

Hearing aid styles we fit in Kings Heath.

Modern hearing aids are small, digital and mostly rechargeable. The right one for you depends on your hearing test results, the shape of your ear canals, how you spend your days and what feels easy to handle. Your audiologist will narrow it down to two or three good options, and you can try them at home before you decide.

Phonak Naída behind-the-ear hearing aid

Behind-the-ear

The case sits neatly behind your ear, with a thin wire or tube carrying sound into the canal. Suits almost every level of hearing loss and is easy to adjust by touch.

Best for: most types of hearing loss

Phonak rechargeable hearing aids in an open charging case

Rechargeable

Drop them in the charger at bedtime and they’ll last the day. There are no tiny batteries to change, which helps if your fingers aren’t as nimble as they were.

Best for: no battery changes

Pair of Phonak Audéo Infinio receiver-in-canal hearing aids

Bluetooth and smartphone

Stream phone calls, the TV and music straight to your hearing aids, and change the volume or settings from an app on your iPhone or Android phone.

Best for: phone calls and TV

In-the-ear hearing aid worn in a man's ear

In-the-ear

Made to the shape of your ear, with nothing sitting behind it. They’re larger than the very smallest models, so they’re easier to put in and take out.

Best for: easy handling

Phonak Virto Titanium invisible-in-canal hearing aids on a fingertip

Invisible in the canal

Custom-made to sit deep in your ear canal, where they’re very hard to spot. They suit mild to moderate hearing loss if your ear canal has enough room.

Best for: discretion

Every trial starts with a free hearing test at our Kings Heath centre, so the hearing aids are programmed to your results.

You don’t need to choose a brand before your appointment. Some manufacturers are stronger in busy restaurants, some offer longer battery life and some have simpler apps. Hearing aid prices

How much do hearing aids cost in Birmingham?

What you pay depends mainly on the technology level. Higher levels cope better as you move between quiet and noisy places, and they add extras such as rechargeable batteries and phone streaming. At Birmingham Hearing Care, prices start from £1,595 a pair. You’ll get a written quote after your free hearing test, so there’s time to think it over.

Free 14-day home trial

Try hearing aids at home first.

If your hearing test shows hearing aids could help, we set up a trial pair to match your results. Wear them for 14 days at home, with family and out and about. Then keep them, try something different or hand them back. The trial is free and there’s no deposit.

At home.

The doorbell, the kettle clicking off, the radio in the next room.

With family.

Keeping up with the conversation round the dinner table.

Out and about.

A coffee on Kings Heath High Street or a walk in Kings Heath Park.

Watching TV.

At a volume everyone in the room is happy with.

Then you decide.

Keep them, try another model or hand them back.

  • The trial is available once a free hearing test shows hearing aids could help you.
  • Your audiologist fits the trial hearing aids and sets them to your test results.
  • There’s no charge for the trial and no deposit.
  • Wear them for 14 days. You can bring them back at any point during the trial.
  • Please return them in the condition you received them, with the charger or case.
  • If you decide to buy, we agree the price in writing before you commit.
  • One trial period per person. Some models may not be available for trial.

A patient’s letter

From a hearing aid patient at our Streetly centre

Helen and Doug FosterHearing aid fitting with Zoya · Sutton Hearing Care, Streetly
“From the moment we met Zoya we were put at ease. It was a totally different experience.”

Having previously attended a local chain of stores for a hearing test, I was left very uncomfortable and disappointed. Zoya didn’t rush the appointment at all and understood what sort of hearing aid fitted my needs.

Read the full letter

Good morning

I just wanted to email in with some feedback following two appointments I have had with Zoya.

Firstly, on calling to discuss an initial assessment with yourselves at Streetly, I found the receptionist very helpful and accommodating to a time available for me to attend. My first impressions from this were good customer service and liaison.

Having previously attended a local chain of stores for a hearing test, I was left very uncomfortable and disappointed — it was not a nice experience at all. I was therefore a little unsure of what to expect from yourselves.

From the moment we met Zoya we were put at ease, everything was explained, test carried out and results shared instantly. It was a totally different experience. Zoya didn’t rush the appointment at all and understood what sort of hearing aid fitted my needs.

Being able to trial a set of hearing aids made a big difference (wasn’t offered by the store previously visited) and helped in the decision making. I didn’t know what to expect from them and this trial allowed me to experience the benefits of them.

Following my week’s trial I returned to see Zoya and confirmed that these were going to be of benefit to me, and as they were in stock I was able to leave the appointment with my new hearing aids — with a follow up appointment in 2 weeks to make any necessary adjustments.

I have no doubt that the after care will continue with the same professionalism.

Thank you to the team for making my visit and experiences so positive.

Kind regardsHelen and Doug Foster
